Project Highlights:
- Brownfield project in California
- Phase I environmental site assessment performed to ASTM standards
- Performed agency file reviews at local and state agencies
EEC Environmental (EEC) was retained by a City to perform a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) for a property. The City was selected by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive a Brownfield Assessment pilot project valued at $200,000.
While the city had adopted the California state standard of three acres of parkland for every 1,000 residents, there had been no park development in the area around the targeted site over the last decade. The city had been unable to keep pace with the substantial increase in residential development in the area around the targeted site. The Pilot Project targeted the city-owned the site, a former landfill now surrounded by residential development. Assessment of the landfill was needed to determine the level of contamination present due to prior uses of the property as a municipal landfill.
Redevelopment plans for the property include a community park with multiple ball fields and picnic shelters.
