EEC was retained by Spohn Ranch Skateparks to provide professional civil engineering services for the development of new skateparks within the greater Los Angeles area. These projects are typically owned by the local parks and recreation department and sited within an existing recreational park.
EEC’s services included:
- Grading and drainage design
- Utility design
- Stormwater LID/BMP design
- Storm drain collection system design
- Stormwater lift station design with supporting Hydrology and Hydraulic calculations
EEC followed Los Angeles County guidelines when analyzing drainage areas, design storm depths and peak flow rates, and subsurface conditions of the sites. Due to varying site grading conditions, the El Monte skatepark was designed with a gravity storm drain system, while a lift station was implemented into the design of the Lancaster skatepark. Design of conveyance piping and infiltration system sizing and siting took into consideration varying subsurface soil conditions and permeabilities.
An in-depth understanding of soil characteristics and permeability surrounding proposed infiltration technologies is an essential component of design. EEC identified unsuitable soil conditions at shallow depths and designed a buried infiltration technology solution in order to avoid costly and unnecessary stormwater detention on site.
